KAMMURI is the 61st name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by Japan, and is the name of the constellation Corona Borealis. This name was used in 2002 and 2008, with the first occurrence necessitating the #1 Standby Signal in Hong Kong and the second occurrence the #8 Gale or Storm Signal.
KAMMURI has turned northeast. At 8 am, KAMMURI was centred about 650 km (350 NM) ESE of Tokyo.
北冕已轉向東北移動。在上午 8 時, 北冕集結在東京東南偏東約 650 公里 (350 海里)。

KAMMURI will turn NE in the next 24 hours, moving in the northwestern periphery of the subtropical ridge. Track speed will increase as the storm enters the westerlies.

KAMMURI has weakened slightly although storm force winds are still observed in its western semicircle. The storm will weaken as it enters cooler seas, and will turn extratropical by t+72.

Although KAMMURI has strengthened, the convections at its western semicircle becomes thinner this morning, leaving the low-level circulation centre partially exposed. The storm may be able to intensify slightly due to improved divergence, but it will soon encounter higher shear and lower sea temperatures that will trigger a weakening trend after recurvature. Extratropical transition is expected by t+96.
KAMMURI is moving NW steadily. At 8 am, KAMMURI was centred about 620 km (330 NM) SE of Iwo Jima.
北冕正穩定向西北移動。在上午 8 時, 北冕集結在硫磺島東南約 620 公里 (330 海里)。

KAMMURI is expected to move NW to NNW along the southwestern periphery of a subtropical ridge to its northeast. It will crest the ridge axis as it reaches around 30°N two to three days later, and is expected to recurve before reaching Japan.

KAMMURI has expanded in size and appears more symmetrical. The storm should be able to intensify gradually in warm seas and an environment with relatively low vertical wind shear. Extratropical transition should commence soon after the storm recurves, and is expected to be complete by t+120.
Tropical disturbance 98W intensified into tropical depression 17W yesterday, and was named KAMMURI. It intensified further into a tropical storm today. KAMMURI was relocated this morning based on wind field analysis. At 8 am, KAMMURI was centred about 920 km (500 NM) SE of Iwo Jima.

KAMMURI was relocated this morning as visible imageries and wind field analysis suggest a low-level centre to the southwest of the centre being tracked the night before. The storm is expected to move NW steadily along the southwestern periphery of a subtropical ridge to its northeast. It will crest the ridge axis as it reaches around 30°N three to four days later, and is expected to recurve before reaching Japan.
KAMMURI's convections in its western semicircle appear thin. Nevertheless, the storm is expected to intensify gradually in warm seas with low shear, and may reach typhoon intensity before recurvature. Extratropical transition should commence soon after the storm recurves to the northeast.
