Information about the eclipse 是次日食資料

An annular eclipse will be visible along a narrow path in the northern hemisphere on January 15th, 2010. The lunar antumbral shadow will touch down on Earth in central Africa just north of the equator at about 05:20 UTC, traversing the continent in a ESE direction. The Moon's antumbra will reach the Indian Ocean at about 05:40 UTC, where the path starts to turn E and then NE. The greatest eclipse will occur at 07:06 UTC, before the shadow touches southern India. After a journey in the Bay of Bengal from 08:00 to 08:30 UTC, the antumbra makes landfall in Myanmar and then enters China at about 08:40 UTC. Some parts in central China will be able to see this annular event, with the antumbra leaving Earth near sunset at Qingdao at about 08:55 UTC, just before it can reach Yantai.

Due to the relatively large difference between the angular sizes of the Sun and the Moon, this annular eclipse is of significant length; at the point of greatest eclipse, the annular phase will last for 11 minutes and 7 seconds, making it the longest annular eclipse of the century (and for the coming millennium as well).

It is also worth noting that an earlier eclipse of the same Saros (141) in 1955 yielded an annular eclipse in Hong Kong, though not the whole territory could have a glimpse of it. That annular eclipse had a maximum duration of 12 minutes and 9 seconds at its climax, the longest in almost two thousand years.

Hong Kong will be able to experience a partial eclipse in the afternoon on that day, the magnitude and obscuration of which are both larger than 0.5. The very careful observer might notice a very slight decrease in light intensity, while most people will not detect anything significant in terms of illumination. The partial eclipse ends as the Sun dips below the horizon, but the Moon will have almost fully left the solar disk at that time.
