An area of low pressure intensified into a tropical cyclone this morning. The JMA upgraded it directly into a tropical storm at 11 HKT and named it TOKAGE, while the JTWC upgraded it into tropical depression 09W at 14 HKT. At 20 HKT, TOKAGE was centred about 660 km (360 NM) NW of Yap.

TOKAGE is now about 1000 km away from MA-ON. As MA-ON's structure is considerably bigger than TOKAGE and that MA-ON is still approaching, it is extremely likely that TOKAGE will eventually be engulfed by MA-ON, dissolving within its convections. This should appear in less than two days' time.

TOKAGE is currently situated in a region of high vertical wind shear induced by MA-ON. Intensification is also inhibited by the MA-ON's subsidence. While TOKAGE is being engulfed by MA-ON, its cyclonic structure will be destroyed and the storm absorbed.
