HAIKUI made landfall at Xiangshan, Zhejiang earlier today, and is now entering Anhui. At 20 HKT, HAIKUI was centred about 210 km (110 NM) WSW of Shanghai.
HAIKUI is the second name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by China, meaning sea anemone. This name replaces LONGWANG which caused significant damage to Taiwan and mainland China in 2005.
There are ridges to the northeast and northwest of HAIKUI, and a weakness north of the storm. The competing steering influence will cause HAIKUI to decelerate further, staying within Anhui Province.
Intensity
Analysis
Current T-number: N/A
HAIKUI's energy source has been cut off and the storm is expected to weaken rapidly inland. HAIKUI should dissipate within 24 to 36 hours.
Effects on
Hong Kong
As wind direction in Hong Kong turn to the southwest, the haze is expected to disperse gradually.

HAIKUI is the second name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by China, meaning sea anemone. This name replaces LONGWANG which caused significant damage to Taiwan and mainland China in 2005.
The ridge north of HAIKUI continues to weaken. HAIKUI is expected to move NW towards eastern China, after which the storm will decelerate further as ridge influence diminishes.

Current T-number: T4.5/4.5/D0.5/24 HRS
HAIKUI developed a ragged eye. The storm should strengthen slightly until landfall and weaken rapidly afterwards.
現時的 T 號碼: T4.5/4.5/D0.5/24 HRS
Effects on
Hong Kong
HAIKUI's subsidence will continue to affect Hong Kong tomorrow.

HAIKUI intensified into a typhoon this afternoon. At 14 HKT, HAIKUI was centred about 480 km (260 NM) E of Wenzhou.

Naming
HAIKUI is the second name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by China, meaning sea anemone. This name replaces LONGWANG which caused significant damage to Taiwan and mainland China in 2005.
HAIKUI has decelerated significantly. The storm will move WNW under the combined influence of the northern and eastern ridges. As the northern ridge weakens further, HAIKUI's track will turn increasingly poleward after landfall.
HAIKUI has intensified into a severe tropical storm. At 14 HKT, HAIKUI was centred about 120 km (65 NM) NNE of Okinawa.

Naming
HAIKUI is the second name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by China, meaning sea anemone. This name replaces LONGWANG which caused significant damage to Taiwan and mainland China in 2005.
HAIKUI is expected to move WNW and make landfall at eastern China two days later. The subtropical ridge will be weakened by arriving troughs, and this should allow HAIKUI to turn NW near or after landfall.
Current T-number: T3.5/3.5/D0.5/18 HRS
HAIKUI's spiraling bands are wrapping around the centre where a central dense overcast appears to be developing. Warm seas and low shear should allow decent storm development before landfall. Rapid weakening will then follow.
現時的 T 號碼: T3.5/3.5/D0.5/18 HRS
Effects on
Hong Kong
As HAIKUI approaches eastern China, its subsiding air will bring very hot weather with haze on Tuesday.

Naming
HAIKUI is the second name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by China, meaning sea anemone. This name replaces LONGWANG which caused significant damage to Taiwan and mainland China in 2005.
HAIKUI has been moving faster than previously expected. Steered by the subtropical ridge to its north, HAIKUI should make landfall at Zhejiang province before any significant change in direction occurs. The storm will be decelerating as the ridge weakens later.
Current T-number: T3.0/3.0/D0.5/24 HRS
HAIKUI has consolidated in the past 24 hours. Warm seas and low shear should allow decent storm development before landfall. Rapid weakening will then follow.
現時的 T 號碼: T3.0/3.0/D0.5/24 HRS

Hong Kong
As HAIKUI approaches eastern China, its subsiding air will bring very hot weather with haze mid-week this week.

Another tropical disturbance has gradually intensified into tropical storm 12W, which was named HAIKUI. At 14 HKT, HAIKUI was centred about 100 km (55 NM) WSW of Iwo Jima.
HAIKUI is the second name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by China, meaning sea anemone. This name replaces LONGWANG which caused significant damage to Taiwan and mainland China in 2005.
The broad subtropical ridge north of HAIKUI is expected to guide the storm towards the WNW in the next 72 hours. All numerical models converge to the outcome of the ridge significantly retreating at around t+72, rendering the storm motionless. As the ridge rebuilds and reorients east of HAIKUI at that time, the storm is expected to turn north.
Current T-number: T2.5/2.5/INT OBS
Seas are warm with low shear that should allow storm development throughout the forecast period. The additional divergence channels brought by the arriving trough near t+72 are expected to boost intensification.
現時的 T 號碼: T2.5/2.5/INT OBS
Effects on
Hong Kong
No threat to Hong Kong is expected within the next 72 hours.
