CIMARON is the 24th name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by the Philippines, and is the name of a type of Philippine wild ox. This name was used in 2001 and 2006, with the latter occurrence necessitating a #1 Standby Signal.
CIMARON turned north today and is approaching Xiamen. At 8 pm, CIMARON was centred about 420 km (230 NM) ENE of Hong Kong. The #1 Standby Signal was cancelled at 3:40 pm.

The subtropical ridge's orientation has changed substantially and CIMARON is now to the west of the ridge. The storm is now forecast to move north into Fujian Province.

Current T-number: T3.0/3.0/D0.5/24 HRS
CIMARON's appearance has improved slightly judging from satellite and radar images. The storm is expected to weaken rapidly after landfall.

08W has intensified into a tropical storm, and was named CIMARON. At 8 pm, CIMARON was centred about 680 km (370 NM) ESE of Hong Kong. The #1 Standby Signal was issued at 11:20 pm.

The ridge has retreated slightly and CIMARON is moving NW steadily in the southwestern periphery of the subtropical ridge. This motion is expected to persist, with the storm making landfall in eastern Guangdong to Fujian later tomorrow.
Current T-number: T2.5/2.5/D0.5/24 HRS
CIMARON has somewhat intensified but is still lacking organization. Due to its proximity to land, significant intensification is not expected. The storm will weaken rapidly after landfall.
現時的 T 號碼: T2.5/2.5/D0.5/24 HRS
Effects on
Hong Kong
Wind direction will turn to northeast tomorrow with some showers brought by CIMARON's rainbands. According to the present forecast track, CIMARON will make landfall at a considerable distance east of Hong Kong, and winds will not strengthen significantly.
08W is expected to move NW along the southwestern periphery of the subtropical ridge. However, models diverge on the strength of the ridge at later taus, with forecasts spreading from landfall near Hong Kong to passing Taiwan strait. This bulletin favours a slight retreat of the ridge caused by a passing trough that will direct 08W a bit poleward.
Current T-number: T2.0/2.0/INT OBS
08W is a relatively small system and significant consolidation is not expected before it passes Luzon terrain. There is some potential for it to intensify in the South China Sea with high sea temperatures and moderate shear.
現時的 T 號碼: T2.0/2.0/INT OBS
Effects on
Hong Kong
As 08W enters the South China Sea, northeasterly winds may affect Hong Kong on Thursday. Exact influence depends very much on 08W's track, which is highly variable at this moment.
