Analysis
HAIYAN is now situated in the western periphery of the subtropical ridge. The ridge is expected to weaken further, and HAIYAN is expected to turn ENE or even E in its northern periphery.

HAIYAN's convections are getting loose as the storm weakens on land. It is expected to degenerate into an area of low pressure in the next 24 hours.
Effects on
Hong Kong
Although HAIYAN may come closer to Hong Kong from the west, it will weaken rather rapidly on land and should not pose a significant threat to the territory.

Movement
Analysis
HAIYAN is situated at the southwestern edge of the subtroopical ridge and will move NW in the next 24 hours. As the ridge weakens, HAIYAN will decelerate quickly and may recurve at northern Vietnam.
HAIYAN maintains strong convective banding but has lost its eye. The storm is expected to suffer from land interaction and will weaken in the rest of its life. The rate of weakening will increase upon landfall.
The combined influence of the northeast monsoon and HAIYAN is affecting Hong Kong and strong winds or above are being observed in offshore areas and on high ground. This is expected to persist today as HAIYAN crosses the Gulf of Tonkin.

Movement
Analysis
HAIYAN will move increasingly poleward at a slower pace as the subtropical ridge north of the storm is expected to weaken soon.

HAIYAN weakened significantly after crossing the Philippines, but is still a significant typhoon. Slight intensification is possible before landfall, and after that rapid weakening should take place.
Effects on
Hong Kong
The combined influence of the northeast monsoon and HAIYAN will result in slightly stronger easterly winds, and the Cuming effect is likely to bring rain to the territory.

HAIYAN maintained a perfect central dense overcast and the JTWC assessed it a 170-knot typhoon based on satellite imageries, surpassing the record of 165 knots held by Super Typhoon Tip in 1979. At 5 am, HAIYAN was centred about 670 km (360 NM) SE of Manila.

Movement
Analysis
HAIYAN is situated south of a deep-layered subtropical ridge, and will generally move WNW in the next 3 days. It will move increasingly poleward at a slower pace as the ridge is expected to weaken at later taus.
HAIYAN is one of the strongest systems based on Dvorak technique due to the presence of a thick ring of extremely deep convections with cloud-top temperatures reaching -80 degrees, with a potential of being the strongest on record. The storm is crossing central Philippines; although it is not traversing high mountains substantial intensity loss is expected. HAIYAN will remain as a significant typhoon in the South China Sea until it makes landfall at Vietnam two days later.
As HAIYAN enters the South China Sea, it will enhance the pressure gradient in its northern parts and southern China coastal areas may experience stronger easterly winds this weekend.

Analysis
HAIYAN is situated south of a deep-layered subtropical ridge, and will generally move WNW in the next 4 days. It will move increasingly poleward at a slower pace as the ridge is expected to weaken at later taus.
HAIYAN is now at its peak intensity as eyewall cloud-top temperatures drop to below -80 degrees with a clear, warm eye. The storm is expected to weaken while crossing the Philippines and when crossing the South China Sea as environmental conditions there cannot support such a strong system.
As HAIYAN enters the South China Sea, it will enhance the pressure gradient in its northern parts and southern China coastal areas may experience stronger easterly winds this weekend.
