Most of NEPARTAK's deeper convections have dissipated, leaving only patches of disorganized lower-level cloud bands. The storm will continue to weaken into an area of low pressure soon.
Extreme heat triggered heavy precipitation last night which alleviated the very hot weather in Hong Kong. NEPARTAK is not expected to pose any threat to the territory.
高溫觸發強烈降雨,影響香港的酷熱天氣昨晚得以舒緩。預料尼伯特將不會對香港構成影響。

NEPARTAK has weakened into a severe tropical storm and is making landfall in Fujian province. At 2 pm, NEPARTAK was centred about 70 km (35 NM) ENE of Xiamen.
NEPARTAK is the 93rd name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by Micronesia, and is the name of a famous Kosrae warrior. This name was used in 2003 and 2009.
NEPARTAK turned northwest after a brief stagnation just west of Taiwan last night. The storm is expected to recurve in southeastern China in the next 48 hours, along the western periphery of the subtropical ridge.
NEPARTAK's structure has deteriorated substantially over the past 24 hours. As the storm moves further inland, it will continue to weaken and should reduce to an area of low pressure by t+48.
Because of light winds, it remains very hot in Hong Kong today. Southwesterly winds will strengthen tonight and should help alleviate the extreme heat.
香港普遍風勢微弱,今天天氣仍然酷熱。預料西南風今晚將開始增強,極端酷熱天氣有望得以舒緩。

NEPARTAK made landfall at Taitung County earlier today. It then crossed southern Taiwan and is now exiting into the Taiwan Strait near Tainan as a category 2 typhoon. At 2 pm, NEPARTAK was centred about 65 km (35 NM) NNW of Kaohsiung.
NEPARTAK is the 93rd name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by Micronesia, and is the name of a famous Kosrae warrior. This name was used in 2003 and 2009.
NEPARTAK has decelerated substantially today. The storm moved irregularly while crossing Taiwan, but maintained a WNW trend in general. After NEPARTAK enters the Taiwan Strait, it is expected to move NW intially and make a second landfall near Xiamen tomorrow. The storm is expected to move increasingly poleward after that.
NEPARTAK's eye disintegrated after landfall but its convections remain rather packed. Proximity to land will cause NEPARTAK to continue its weakening trend as the storm crosses the Taiwan Strait. It will start to weaken more rapidly upon landfall in southeastern China.
Affected by NEPARTAK's subsidence, it is now very hot in Hong Kong with poor air quality. Such weather conditions will persist for the rest of today and possibly tomorrow, but strengthening southwesterly winds will alleviate the unpleasant situation after that.
NEPARTAK remains as a category 5 super typhoon as it approaches southeastern Taiwan at reduced speed. At 2 pm, NEPARTAK was centred about 420 km (230 NM) SSE of Taipei.
NEPARTAK is the 93rd name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by Micronesia, and is the name of a famous Kosrae warrior. This name was used in 2003 and 2009.
The subtropical ridge can be seen weakening north of NEPARTAK, causing the storm to decelerate. It is expected to cross Taiwan early tomorrow, after which it should travel across the Taiwan Strait along a more poleward direction. A second landfall at Fujian should take place on Saturday. Depending on the rate of recurvature inland, NEPARTAK may not be able to enter the East China Sea as a tropical cyclone next week.
NEPARTAK's central dense overcast remains packed although eyewall temperatures have risen slightly. The storm is expected to weaken slowly prior to impact, and should still be able to make landfall as a super typhoon. Rapid weakening is expected thereafter as NEPARTAK crosses Taiwan and later Fujian.
NEPARTAK deepened rapidly over the past 24 hours and is now a category 5 super typhoon. It has been moving steadily towards the WNW at a rather high speed. At 2 pm, NEPARTAK was centred about 930 km (500 NM) SE of Taipei.
NEPARTAK is the 93rd name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by Micronesia, and is the name of a famous Kosrae warrior. This name was used in 2003 and 2009.
NEPARTAK is expected to move WNW to NW along the southwestern periphery of the subtropical ridge over the next 48 hours. As the ridge retreats near that time, NEPARTAK should turn more poleward afterwards. The forecast continues to shift towards the west and a landfall at Taiwan on Friday is now very likely.
Current T-number 現時的 T 號碼: T7.0/7.5/D2.5/24 HRS W0.5/06 HRS
NEPARTAK's central dense overcast is very mature, with vigorous convections and a well-defined eye at the centre. The storm should have reached its peak intensity by now and may weaken slightly as it nears Taiwan. More rapid weakening is expected as the storm moves into southeastern China towards the weekend.
Near that time, a mid-latitude trough is expected to erode the ridge somewhat, causing it to retreat slightly and allowing NEPARTAK to move more poleward along its western side. There is however some uncertainty in the timing of the ridge's retreat and thus it cannot be determined with confidence whether the storm will make landfall at Taiwan and/or Fujian/Zhejiang provinces.
NEPARTAK's centre tightened and a small central dense overcast appears to be developing. As the storm continues to track through warm seas, it should intensify further in the next 48 hours, after which proximity to land and lower ocean heat content will initiate a weakening trend.
NEPARTAK is the 93rd name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by Micronesia, and is the name of a famous Kosrae warrior. This name was used in 2003 and 2009.
NEPARTAK is expected to move WNW to NW along the southwestern periphery of the subtropical ridge over the next 72 hours. Near that time, a mid-latitude trough is expected to erode the ridge somewhat, causing it to retreat slightly and allowing NEPARTAK to move more poleward along its western side.
NEPARTAK has intensified over the past 24 hours but the storm is still lacking organization near its centre. The storm is expected to track through a very favourable environment, with sea temperatures above 30 degrees and low vertical wind shear. Steady strengthening is forecast through t+72, after which proximity to land and lower ocean heat content will initiate a weakening trend.
Tropical disturbance 99W intensified into tropical depression 02W this morning, and was given the name NEPARTAK. It further intensified into a tropical storm this afternoon. At 2 pm, NEPARTAK was centred about 460 km (250 NM) S of Guam.
NEPARTAK is the 93rd name in the tropical cyclone name list. It was contributed by Micronesia, and is the name of a famous Kosrae warrior. This name was used in 2003 and 2009.
NEPARTAK is moving slowly currently, but is expected to accelerate towards the northwest along the southwestern periphery of the subtropical ridge over the next 72 to 96 hours. Near that time, a mid-latitude trough is expected to erode the ridge somewhat, causing it to retreat slightly and allowing NEPARTAK to move more poleward along its western side.
NEPARTAK is showing decent spiraling cloud bands. The storm will track through a very favourable environment, with sea temperatures above 30 degrees and low vertical wind shear. Steady strengthening is forecast through t+96, after which the rate of intensification may drop.
