A broad subtropical ridge is covering the tropical Pacific north of 02W, allowing the storm to move W to WNW steadily. The storm will continue to move WNW in the next 48 hours, before gradually turning poleward as it arrives at the ridge's southwestern periphery.

Environmental conditions in northern South China Sea are mediocre and numerical models do not suggest significant development there either. The storm will likely weaken into an area of low pressure by t+72.
