| Information about the eclipse 是次日食資料 |
A total solar eclipse will occur on March 20 in the northern Atlantic Ocean and Norwegian Sea. Even though the path of totality is rather wide, it will avoid most populated landmasses in northern Europe. Total eclipse starts in the morning south of Greenland at around 09:10 UTC (17:10 HKT). The path of totality first travels eastward along the north Atlantic, before turning northeast 20 minutes later, passing through Faroe Islands. It later turns increasingly poleward, entering Norwegian Sea. Observers at Svalbard will enjoy totality shortly after 10:10 UTC (18:10 HKT). The umbral shadow continues to move north and leaves Earth at around 10:15 UTC (18:15 HKT) near the North Pole, where the sun is barely over the horizon at vernal equinox.
Away from the path of totality, observers in a much wider area will be able to experience a partial solar eclipse. This includes essentially the whole of Europe, northern Africa and northwestern Asia. The eclipse magnitude can reach 0.9 or above in northern United Kingdom.
