| Information about the eclipse 是次日食資料 |
A total solar eclipse will occur on March 9 in southeastern Asia and the Pacific Ocean. The path of totality strikes Earth near 00:15 UTC (08:15 HKT) in the Indian Ocean, after which it moves east and crosses Indonesia over the next 45 minutes. It then enters the Pacific Ocean near 01:00 UTC (09:00 HKT), turning northeast gradually and will never reach significant landmass again. The umbral path will just miss Wake Island around 02:50 UTC (10:50 HKT), and cross the dateline near 03:15 UTC (11:15 HKT) as it turns east once more. The shadow will lift off our planet near 03:35 UTC (11:35 HKT) some 1,700 km northeast of Hawaii as the region sees sunset at that time.
Indonesia and Micronesia are the only countries that lie within the path of totality. Partial eclipse can however be seen across a much larger region, including most of east and southeast Asia, as well as northern and central Australia. Many islands in the Pacific Ocean are also included in this list.

Note that unlike lunar eclipse, not all places experience these times as the moon moves across the sky (and so does its shadow). They serve to show the times at which there exists at least a location on Earth that can experience those events.

Weather permitting, observers in Hong Kong will be able to see a partial eclipse in the morning. The sun will already be at some angle against the horizon at ingress, but can still be blocked by tall buildings. It is therefore suggested to observe the partial eclipse at locations not excessively obscured to the east-southeast.
